01D.13: Intelligence Design |13th International Conference on Design Sciences & Technology 11-12 december 2025 | Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 | site Saint Charles | France
01Design conferences aim to bring together the fields of design by exploring the complexity of the boundaries between physical object design (architecture, aerospace, industrial design, etc.) and the design of “smart” and informational digital devices and objects (Internet, AI, IoT, XR, etc.). Previous conferences have revealed not only the interconnection of these objects in terms of their production and usage modes, but also their hybridization, and even fusion, to make them increasingly "intelligent."
Design is both a way of thinking and a creative process, situated between the intelligible and the sensible, it involves human intelligence. Design relies on design methodologies rooted in artisanal, engineering, artistic, and industrial practices, which are inspired by scientific research and increasingly intertwined with them through creative or innovation approaches, production processes, and techniques.
Through this conference, we specifically aim to explore the design of intelligence through several interdependent definitions of the design of intelligence:
In terms of human intellect;
As scientific and methodological intelligence;
For modeling, creation techniques, and innovation.
Thus, the goal is to examine the issues surrounding the entire process, from ideation to creation, and its impact on ecosystems. Intelligence, as a design object, raises questions about how cognitive processes—whether human, physical, artificial, or hybrid—are conceived and structured.
Starting from user-centered approaches, or more specifically human-centered design, it is important to understand human intellect in various use cases, not only to address needs and expectations, but also to account for the phenomena linked to their ecosystems in order to create or simulate reality and design empowering models and artifacts.
01Design.13 aims to interrogate the design of intelligence, that is, the concept of intelligence in the sciences and technologies of design.
What is intelligence today, as well as yesterday and tomorrow?
How does human intelligence, intelligence technologies, and smart technologies interact?
What design, modeling, realization, and usage processes are involved?
